The annual New York State Blues Festival was held June 13,14,15 2024 blessed with perfect weather and stellar blues music for 3 days. You have to hand it to the producers, volunteers and sponsors to do yet another great job putting together this great event at the NYS Fairgrounds.
Standouts on June 13 we covered were Bywater Call, an excellent and popular band from Toronto, Canada, led by vocalist Meghan Parnell. A new album arrives on August 9, 2024. Lil'Ed & the blues Imperials from Chicago, featuring Lil' Ed Williams, the happiest blues singer and guitarist I've ever seen. Great Show !
On June 14, Mathias Lattin (Trio), a young guitarist, vocals and composer and International Blues Challenge Award winner and his band from Houston, TX. This 21 year old pumps out some serious notes and will be someone to watch as he continues on his blues mission. This talent is hot. His show was followed by The Record Company (Trio), a wildly popular trio from California, who's rocky blues rock show full of sound and a unique bite. A great band who will be back in NY soon, in Rochester, NY 7/11, Pleasentville, NY 7/13 and Albany, NY 7/25.
On June 15, the great Matt Schofield started off the final evening with a great set, followed by the soulful singer Shemekia Copeland and her band. After a successful 3 days of great music, the Legend Little Feat, the band I saw bring the house down over 45 years ago at the Syracuse Landmark Theatre, performed a memorable 1 1/2 hrs of favorite hits to the large crowd gathered for this final night of Blues Fest 2024. Even after the losses and changes over the years, the current band with Bill Payne, Fred Tackett, Sam Clayton, Kenny Gradney, Tony Leone and Scott Sharrard, performed flawlessly throughout the show. Little feat opened with - Fat Man in the Bathtub, Hate to Lose Your Lovin, and Oh Atlanta. This set the stage for a rocking, fine show by one of the music greats of all time. (E) Time Loves A Hero. Yes, Little Feat, time has passed and you are still a Hero. Thank you for the kick-ass show to end the 2024 New York State Blues Festival.
